During his four-decade career as a photographer and explorer, James Balog has focused his lens on the complex relationship between humans and nature. He investigates how human activity alters the balance of the elements (earth, water, fire, and air) that impacts all Americans right now.

The Human Element features subjects who are often overlooked victims of climate change, including an island community in Virginia facing a threatening rise in sea level and a hospital-based school for children struggling with issues related to air quality. We also see the Cal Fire strike team on the frontlines of the most expensive wildfire in history, the 2017 Wine County fires in Napa.

Balog argues that humans are part of the whole system of nature and not apart from it. Knowing this, he finds great hope that the fifth element, the human element, can bring the whole system back into balance.

Seats are reserved and capacity has been reduced per CDC guidelines to keep each party at least six feet apart. Masks are required in all common areas. Groups of 4 can be accommodated in the center section. Please call 530-885-0156 to get tickets for groups of 4.
