Coarsegold Historic Village
10:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Price: FREE

Herald the return of the Coarsegold Tarantula Awareness Festival. The town celebrates the emergence of the eight-legged creatures as they come out of their burrows in search of a mate before they hunker down over the winter. Free event arachnid races, costume parades, hairy legs contest, pizza eating, pumpkin cake, poetry, and crafts.

Here are some things to know about tarantulas before you go:
They are harmless to humans. Yes they bite, but their venom is weaker than a bee sting.
They can be 4 to 5 inches long, and they are skilled predators, usually scarfing down insects.
Females sometimes eat the males after mating.
