Join the Sierra Institute, Plumas Audubon and the Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce on Labor Day Weekend for an exciting event series that celebrates and explores the important natural resources of this beautiful area, culminating in a Fabulous Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday night. Various locations throughout Plumas County.

Friday August 30th
Sustainable Forestry Tour

10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Meet at Collins Pine Museum. Tour the Collins Pine Company state-of-the-art sawmill along with their Collins-Almanor forests to learn how they manage their forests to maintain a sustainable harvest, a healthy forest ecosystem, and a strong community. Hike to trees over 400-years old in Park 40. Tours are $60 and include professional guides, snacks, drinks and lunch.

Town Talk/Mixer

5:00 to 7:00 at Collins Pine Museum. Appetizers, presentations and more! No host wine and beer. Free community fun.

Saturday, August 31st
Pontoon Boat Tour on Lake Almanor
8:00 to 9:45 AM, 10:15 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:30 TO 2:15 PM. Meet at Majors Outpost. Traveling by pontoon boat on beautiful Lake Almanor with majestic views of Lassen Peak, this trip will take participants to see Western and Clark’s Grebes on their floating nests (from the safe distance of 300 feet). While skimming across the water from a comfortable seat, you will have the opportunity to see many different species of birds. Some of the frequently seen species are Osprey, Bald Eagle, Common Merganser, White Pelican, Bufflehead, Double-crested Cormorant, Common Goldeneye, Eared Grebe, Ring-billed and California Gulls, Red-necked Phalarope, and Forster’s and Common Terns. Rarities including Parasitic Jaeger and Sabine's Gull are often seen as well. Participants must be 10 or older (10-17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult). $60

Wildfire on the Watershed: Outdoor Educational Tour

2:30 to 5:30 PM. Meet in front of Plumas Pines Resort. Learn about the Feather River Watershed, the ecological and cultural history of wildfire in the region, current science in fire ecology and the effects of wildfire on climate change, ecoystems and communities. Tour includes transportation by bus, professional tour guides, drinks and snacks $60.

Trees, Trout & Stout Evening Meet and Greet

6:00 to 8:00 PM. The lawn at Plumas Pines Resort. Celebrate clean water by drinking great beer! Learn about and support Sierra Institute's ecological restoration and local economic development work while relaxing lakeside enjoying delicious appetizers. Bring blankets - the Fireworks Spectacular starts at sunset. Includes beer tasting, appetizers and exclusive access to innovators of the future Forest Restoration Economy $30.
