This feature documentary takes an unprecedented look at the bond between two of the most iconic artists of the 20th century: Gary Cooper and Ernest Hemingway. Utter opposites, the cowboy and the suburbanite, the conservative and the liberal, the best of friends, right up to their deaths in 1961.

The most famous American writer of the 20th Century, Hemingway left people enchanted, hostile, endeared, confused, charmed, bruised, bitter; he was an extraordinary, unforgettable presence.

Gary Cooper was the tall, Western American hero of 20th century film. One of Hollywood's leading men, Cooper commanded the screen and public appeal for decades. In over 89 movies he portrayed pioneer, pilot, cowboy and soldier with charm and a succinct stateliness.

"The True Gen" is used to distinguish accurate information from rumor, innuendo and speculation. Hemingway used the expression frequently.

Directed by John Mulholland and narrated by Sam Waterston, the film stars Ernest Hemingway, Gary Cooper, Charlton Heston, and features Kirk Douglas and Patricia Neal, among others.
